How much praying is too much praying?

My best friend converted to Catholicism and began praying constantly. We could never hang out because he just wouldn't get off his knees (And I don't want any sexual jokes here, pal). Eventually, his refusal to stop praying led to him never eating or drinking and he eventually died. So at what point is somebody praying too much?
